Growing up in a Ghanaian-American family, we saw the best of both worlds. From the bold traditions of our dad’s Ghanaian roots to the Southern charm of our mom’s Americana heritage, we learned early that beauty isn’t about fitting into one mold—it’s about celebrating what makes you, uniquely you.
But let’s be real: it hasn’t always been easy to tune out the noise. Living in New York City, we love the hustle, the energy, and the endless opportunities to try new things. At the same time, life can pull you in a million directions, and it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. Over the years, we’ve each gone on a journey to live more intentionally—to be mindful about what we put on, in, and around our bodies. That means cutting through the clutter, saying no to toxic choices (literally and figuratively), and embracing a lifestyle that feels authentic to us.
Our aha moment came in 2019 during a trip to Ghana. Surrounded by family, we saw how effortlessly our Aunties achieved glowing skin. Their secret? “I just use shea butter,” they said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. And they were right. It was a reminder that beauty doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to work.
That trip changed everything. We came home with a suitcase full of shea butter and a fresh perspective on self-care: less is more, and simpler is better. But finding high-quality, unrefined shea butter in the States? A struggle. That’s when the idea for Sourced was born.
